How to Download Your Pinterest Data
Short answer: On Pinterest, open Settings, then Privacy and data, and click Start request under Request your data. Pinterest emails a download link, usually within 48 hours. There is nothing to choose, and the ZIP is the only file you need.
Step by step
- On pinterest.com, click the … (more options) icon at the bottom left, then choose Settings. In the app, tap your profile picture, then your profile photo at the top left to open settings.
- Choose Privacy and data.
- Under Request your data, click Start request. In the app, tap Request your data, then Start request.
- Pinterest emails you a download link, usually within 48 hours. It arrives through a secure transfer service called SendSafely, so check your spam folder if you don’t see it.
Pinterest’s download is a ZIP of web pages. You don’t need to open it. Drop it into the scan page as it is.
Why download it before a job search
Several screening vendors list Pinterest among the platforms they review, and public boards and Pins sit under your name. Most of what is in a typical account is saved Pins, which are other people’s content that you chose to keep on a public board. What the scan reads
You don't need to unzip anything or dig through folders. The scan reads three parts of the export: pins, boards, and your About text. Titles and descriptions of Pins you created or saved to public boards, and board names and descriptions, are scored. Secret boards and removed Pins are skipped, and so is anything that says only “No data.”
Everything else in the export, including the IP addresses recorded for each Pin, your search history, your messages, and your account details, stays on your computer. Your browser reads the pages and sends only the text to be scored.
Expect most of what is found to be saved Pins. The report treats a saved Pin the way it treats a like, with the fix being to remove it from your board. A flagged saved Pin is flagged for the text on the Pin, not for anything you wrote.
