Terms of Service

Effective and last updated: October 17, 2026

These terms govern your use of prunesocial.com and the PruneSocial screening tool ("the Service"), operated by PruneSocial LLC, a Maine limited liability company (“PruneSocial,” “we,” or “us”). By ticking the Terms box on the scan page or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these terms.

What the Service is

PruneSocial scores your own social media history against risk categories modeled on those employment screening vendors publicly document, and against a lookback window those vendors disclose. It is not a reproduction of any vendor's proprietary system. It helps you review your content so you can address flagged items before you apply for a job. Your report is generated for you, based on activity from your own social media accounts, and is not furnished to an employer, recruiter, background-screening company, or anyone else making an eligibility decision. Contracted service providers process your content only as needed to provide the Service, as described in the Privacy Policy. PruneSocial is designed and operated solely as a self-review tool and does not furnish reports for employment or other eligibility decisions.

Personal self-review only; not a consumer report. The Service is provided solely to the individual who is the subject of the submitted account exports, for that individual’s private self-review. PruneSocial does not assemble or evaluate information for the purpose of furnishing consumer reports to employers or others making employment, credit, housing, insurance, licensing, or other eligibility decisions. PruneSocial will not furnish, verify, authenticate, or confirm a report or its findings to an employer, recruiter, background-screening company, or other third party for an eligibility decision. The Service is not intended to be, and is not operated as, a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Organizations that buy prepaid codes never receive a participant’s identity, report, or findings.

Who can use it

You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United States to use the Service. By using PruneSocial, you confirm both of these are true. This applies equally if someone else, such as a school or program, paid for your report with a prepaid code.

Your content

You may only submit exports from social media accounts you personally own or control. Those exports can include content you wrote, as well as content you interacted with, such as posts you liked, whose text was written by someone else. You may not upload another person's account export, or use the Service to investigate, screen, or build a profile of anyone other than yourself. This restriction exists both to protect other people's privacy and because it's central to what keeps PruneSocial a self-review tool rather than a third-party background-check service.

Full History can include a short watchlist of names and words that you ask us to search for. The watchlist is searched for only in the exports you submit about yourself, as plain text, and matches are listed in your report without being rated. You may not use it to investigate or build a profile of another person.

You're responsible for the accuracy of what you submit. PruneSocial scores the content you provide. It does not independently verify it.

Your responsibility for unauthorized submissions

You represent that each account export you submit comes from a social media account you personally own or control. To the extent permitted by applicable law, you will indemnify and hold harmless PruneSocial LLC and its members, employees, and agents from third-party claims, damages, and reasonable attorneys’ fees arising from your knowing or willful submission of another person’s account export, your knowing or willful use of the Service to investigate or screen another person, or your knowing or willful violation of applicable law. This does not make you responsible for PruneSocial’s own negligence, willful misconduct, or violation of law.

Payment, refunds, and our 30-day guarantee

The Risk Preview is free. The Screening Report is a one-time purchase, priced as shown on the site at the time of purchase, and includes up to 3 report runs within 60 days of purchase. 30-day guarantee: if your report isn't useful to you for any reason, email hello@prunesocial.com within 30 days of the date your first report under that purchase is sent for a full refund of your purchase, including any add-on. If no report has been run under the purchase, you may request the same full refund within 60 days of purchase. After those periods, all purchases are final, including purchases for which no report was run. Refunds are issued to the original payment method. This guarantee is in addition to, and does not limit, any refund, warranty, or other consumer right that cannot be waived under applicable law.

Full History is an optional add-on to the Screening Report, offered at checkout and priced as shown on the site at the time of purchase. With it, the report covers every year available in your exports rather than the last seven, up to 25,000 items per report run, and includes up to 3 report runs within 60 days of purchase, a complete findings file, and an optional watchlist. It is not offered with a prepaid pack code. The 30-day guarantee above applies to it in the same way.

Prepaid report packs are sold to organizations such as career centers and programs. A pack of 10, 20, or 50 codes is a one-time purchase, priced as shown on the site at the time of purchase. Each code is single-use, can be redeemed for one Screening Report by one person who meets the requirements above, and is valid for 12 months from purchase. Once a person redeems a code, their report runs (up to 3 within 60 days) are theirs alone, and the organization that bought the pack does not receive their report or findings. Unredeemed codes can be refunded within 30 days of purchase. Codes are not for public resale, and anyone holding a code can use it, so the buyer is responsible for how codes are shared. Codes that have been redeemed are not refundable.

No guarantee of outcome

PruneSocial estimates risk based on published screening-industry criteria. It does not guarantee that any employer, recruiter, or actual background-check vendor will reach the same conclusion, and it does not guarantee any hiring outcome. A Clear result is not a promise that a real screening will also come back clear. PruneSocial can’t see or control copies of your content held elsewhere, such as screenshots, search engine caches, web archives, other people’s posts, or information a screening company already collected.

Cleanup steps

Cleanup steps in a report or preview are optional suggestions for your own accounts. They are not legal advice and not an instruction to delete anything you are required to keep. If a court, employer, school, licensing board, or investigator has told you to preserve your accounts, posts, or messages, do not delete or edit them because of a report, and answer any disclosure questions truthfully. You decide what, if anything, to change.

The same caution applies in other situations. If you are in, or expect, a lawsuit, a custody or divorce case, or an investigation, talk to a lawyer before deleting anything: deleting content can be treated as destroying evidence. If a visa, security clearance, licensing, or other application asks you to list your accounts, deleting or editing content while it is under review can be treated as hiding it. If you hold public office, your posts may be public records. PruneSocial is a self-review tool. It is not legal, employment, or immigration advice.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to screen or investigate anyone other than yourself
  • Attempt to resell, furnish, or share your report with an employer, recruiter, or background-check company as if it were an official report
  • Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or abuse the Service
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose

Intellectual property

The PruneSocial name, logo, site design, and scoring methodology are owned by PruneSocial LLC. You retain whatever rights you have in the content and account activity you submit, and PruneSocial claims no ownership over your account activity or any third-party content included in your export, and uses it only as described in our Privacy Policy.

Service limitations

PruneSocial is an informational self-review tool. Scores and findings come from automated analysis and judgment and may contain false positives, false negatives, omissions, or errors. PruneSocial does not promise that its results will match those of any employer, recruiter, background-screening provider, or other person, or that using the Service will lead to any particular employment or other outcome. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PruneSocial is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including any employment outcome. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose or $100. These limits do not apply to liability or remedies that applicable law does not allow to be excluded or limited, or to PruneSocial’s fraud, willful misconduct, or gross negligence.

Termination

You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your data at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who violates these terms, particularly the restriction on submitting someone else's content or using the Service to screen another person.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a material way, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify waitlist members by email.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except to the extent applicable law requires another jurisdiction’s nonwaivable consumer-protection or privacy rights to apply.
